Book online any time, or call (888) 233-3415 during office hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Online booking takes under a minute and you pick the office, the day and the time.
How soon can I be seen?
Usually within the same week. Injury cases, new severe pain and patients who cannot work get priority. Call the office and say what is going on rather than waiting for the next open online slot.
Where are your offices and which days is Dr. Sheikh there?
Clifton at 1037 US-46, Suite 103 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Jersey City at 377 Jersey Ave, Suite 250 on Wednesdays. Edison at 2 Lincoln Highway, Suite 405 on Thursdays.
Is there parking?
Yes. All three offices have free on site parking, and all three are accessible without stairs. The Jersey City office is a short walk from the Grove Street PATH station if you would rather not drive.
Do you take my insurance?
We accept most major carriers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare and Medicaid, along with workers' compensation, auto and personal injury claims. Call with your card and we will verify your specific plan and tell you what your share will be before you come in.
Do I need a referral?
HMO plans generally require a referral from your primary care physician. PPO plans generally do not. Medicare does not. If you are not sure, call and we will check your plan while you are on the phone.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your medications, any imaging reports and discs, records from other doctors who treated this problem, and your claim information if this is a work or accident injury.
Are you a surgeon? Will I need surgery?
No, and usually no. Interventional pain management exists precisely to treat spine and nerve pain without open surgery. We perform minimally invasive procedures through a needle under image guidance, and patients go home the same day. If your problem genuinely needs a surgeon, we will tell you plainly and refer you to one.
Do you prescribe opioids?
Rarely, and never as the whole plan. Our job is to find the source of the pain and treat it. Long term opioid therapy causes tolerance, dependence and worse function over time, and in New Jersey it is tightly regulated for good reason. If you are already on opioids when you come to us, we will not abandon you or cut you off abruptly. We will work on a plan that treats the underlying problem so the medication becomes less necessary.
Does an injection hurt?
We numb the skin first, so most patients feel pressure rather than sharp pain. The procedures take fifteen to thirty minutes. You are awake, you go home the same day, and you can usually return to normal activity in a day or two.
Will I be put to sleep for a procedure?
Most procedures are done with local anesthetic while you are awake, which is safer and lets you tell us what you feel, which is diagnostically useful. Light sedation is available for certain procedures. If you are sedated, you will need someone to drive you home.
How many visits will this take?
There is no standard number. Some problems resolve with one diagnostic block and a short course of therapy. Chronic conditions need ongoing management. After the first visit you will know what the plan looks like and roughly how long it should take.
Do you do EMG and nerve conduction testing in the office?
Yes. Dr. Sheikh performs and reads the studies himself at all three offices and discusses the results with you the same day. You are not sent to an outside lab and you do not wait a week for a report.
Can you see me if I was injured at work?
Yes, and there is no cost to you on an authorized claim. Under New Jersey law you can request the provider you want. Tell your employer in writing, ask the carrier to authorize it, and call us. Our staff deals with workers' comp carriers every day and will help push the authorization through.
Can you see me after a car accident?
Yes. In New Jersey your own auto policy's personal injury protection pays for the treatment regardless of who was at fault, and we bill the carrier directly. Bring your auto insurance card, the police report number and the claim number if you have it.
I am a doctor's office. How do I refer a patient?
Use the referral form on this site, or print it and fax it to (888) 250-6364. Attach the demographic sheet and any imaging or test results. Our provider NPI is 1013128016 and the organization NPI is 1033497714. Questions go to (888) 233-3415 or contact@sheikhpain.com.
How do I get a copy of my records?
Call the office or send a written request with your signature to contact@sheikhpain.com or by fax to (888) 250-6364. Records go to you, to another physician, or to your attorney, whichever you direct.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Call (888) 233-3415 as far ahead as you can. Someone else is waiting for that slot, and giving us notice means you get an earlier one next time.
Do you speak languages other than English?
Yes. Dr. Sheikh speaks English and Urdu, and our staff across the three offices covers Spanish as well. If you need another language, tell us when you book and we will arrange an interpreter.
